RESUMEN

OBJECTIVE: The human cluster of differentiation (CD)300A, a type-I transmembrane protein with immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs, was investigated as a potential immune checkpoint for human natural killer (NK) cells targeting hematologic malignancies (HMs). METHODS: We implemented a stimulation system involving the CD300A ligand, phosphatidylserine (PS), exposed to the outer surface of malignant cells. Additionally, we utilized CD300A overexpression, a CD300A blocking system, and a xenotransplantation model to evaluate the impact of CD300A on NK cell efficacy against HMs in in vitro and in vivo settings. Furthermore, we explored the association between CD300A and HM progression in patients. RESULTS: Our findings indicated that PS hampers the function of NK cells. Increased CD300A expression inhibited HM lysis by NK cells. CD300A overexpression shortened the survival of HM-xenografted mice by impairing transplanted NK cells. Blocking PS-CD300A signals with antibodies significantly amplified the expression of lysis function-related proteins and effector cytokines in NK cells, thereby augmenting the ability to lyse HMs. Clinically, heightened CD300A expression correlated with shorter survival and an "exhausted" phenotype of intratumoral NK cells in patients with HMs or solid tumors. CONCLUSIONS: These results propose CD300A as a potential target for invigorating NK cell-based treatments against HMs.

OBJECTIVES: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global public health concern, and accumulating evidence has indicated that air pollution increases the odds of CKD. However, a limited number of studies have examined the long-term effects of ambient fine particulate matter (PM2.5) components on the risk of CKD among general population; thus, major knowledge gaps remain. METHODS: Using data from a nationwide representative cross-sectional survey in China and a validated PM2.5 composition dataset, we established generalized linear models to quantify the association between five major components of PM2.5 and CKD prevalence. RESULTS: There were significant associations between long-term exposure to three PM2.5 components [including black carbon (BC), sulfate (SO42-), organic matter (OM)] and increased odds of CKD prevalence. Along with an interquartile range (IQR) increment in BC (3.3 µg/m3), SO42- (9.7 µg/m3), and OM (16.2 µg/m3) at a 4-year moving average, the odds ratios (ORs) for CKD prevalence were 1.28 (95% CI 1.07, 1.54), 1.23 (95% CI 1.03, 1.45), and 1.23 (95% CI 1.02, 1.47), respectively. We did not detect any significant association of the other two PM2.5 components [nitrate (NO3-) or ammonium (NH4+)] with CKD prevalence. Stratified analyses revealed no differences (P ≥ 0.05) in the effect estimates of subgroups based on administrative region, sex, age, and other demographic characteristics. For instance, along with an IQR increment in BC at a 4-year moving average, the ORs of CKD prevalence among males and females were 1.30 (95% CI 0.98, 1.73) and 1.29 (95% CI 1.01, 1.65), respectively. The odds of CKD were generally higher with increasing PM2.5 composition concentration. CONCLUSIONS: Our study demonstrated that long-term exposure to specific PM2.5 components including BC, SO42-, and OM increased CKD risk in the general population. This study could provide new insights into source-directed PM2.5 control and CKD prevention.

PURPOSE: To analyze the corneal biomechanical properties in patients with abnormal corneal tomography (ACT) and predict their stability using the biomechanical stability index (BSI). DESIGN: Prospective cohort study. METHODS: Setting: Multicenter study. STUDY POPULATION: This study included 385 eyes of 278 patients with stable ACT (n = 70), subclinical keratoconus (SKC, n = 65), keratoconus (n = 65), normal controls (NL, n = 142). Forty-three eyes with first-visit ACT were included in a separate cohort (follow-up ACT group). OBSERVATION PROCEDURE: Tomographical and biomechanical parameters (Pentacam and Corvis ST) were recorded. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Nonparametric tests were used for comparison. Logistic regression was employed to introduce BSI to separate stable ACT and SKC accurately. An independent dataset of 43 first-visit ACT eyes was followed up for 1 year to validate BSI's accuracy and positive and negative predictive values (PPV, NPV). RESULTS: The tomographical and biomechanical parameters in patients with Stable ACT remained stable over the follow-up period (12.73 ± 2.57 months, P > .05). Stable ACT had 12/14 biomechanical parameters different (P < .05) from SKC but not different from NL (P > .05). With a cut-off value of 0.585, BSI demonstrated the strongest ability to distinguish between stable ACT and SKC (area under the receiver operating characteristic curve = 0.991), with 93.85% sensitivity and 97.14% specificity. During the 1-year follow-up of 43 eyes (follow-up ACT group), 30 remained stable. The accuracy, PPV, and NPV of the BSI were 95.35%, 100%, and 93.75%, respectively. CONCLUSIONS: Biomechanical properties of patients with stable abnormal tomography corneas were stronger than SKC and close to normal corneas, which may explain the reason for tomographic stability. The BSI may be useful for predicting disease progression in patients with ACT and the possible management of corneal cross-linking at the first visit.

Uncovering the mechanisms that lead to Amazon forest resilience variations is crucial to predict the impact of future climatic and anthropogenic disturbances. Here, we apply a previously used empirical resilience metrics, lag-1 month temporal autocorrelation (TAC), to vegetation optical depth data in C-band (a good proxy of the whole canopy water content) in order to explore how forest resilience variations are impacted by human disturbances and environmental drivers in the Brazilian Amazon. We found that human disturbances significantly increase the risk of critical transitions, and that the median TAC value is ~2.4 times higher in human-disturbed forests than that in intact forests, suggesting a much lower resilience in disturbed forests. Additionally, human-disturbed forests are less resilient to land surface heat stress and atmospheric water stress than intact forests. Among human-disturbed forests, forests with a more closed and thicker canopy structure, which is linked to a higher forest cover and a lower disturbance fraction, are comparably more resilient. These results further emphasize the urgent need to limit deforestation and degradation through policy intervention to maintain the resilience of the Amazon rainforests.

Grain size and weight determine rice yield. Although numerous genes and pathways involved in regulating grain size have been identified, our knowledge of post-transcriptional control of grain size remains elusive. In this study, we characterize a rice mutant, decreased grain width and weight 1 (dgw1), which produces small grains. We show that DGW1 encodes a member of the heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein (hnRNP) family protein and preferentially expresses in developing panicles, positively regulating grain size by promoting cell expansion in spikelet hulls. Overexpression of DGW1 increases grain weight and grain numbers, leading to a significant rise in rice grain yield. We further demonstrate that DGW1 functions in grain size regulation by directly binding to the mRNA of Grain Width 6 (GW6), a critical grain size regulator in rice. Overexpression of GW6 restored the grain size phenotype of DGW1-knockout plants. DGW1 interacts with two oligouridylate binding proteins (OsUBP1a and OsUBP1b), which also bind the GW6 mRNA. In addition, the second RRM domain of DGW1 is indispensable for its mediated protein-RNA and protein-protein interactions. In summary, our findings identify a new regulatory module of DGW1-GW6 that regulates rice grain size and weight, providing important insights into the function of hnRNP-like proteins in the regulation of grain size.

Objective: To investigate the early effectiveness of transiliac-transsacral screws internal fixation assisted by augmented reality navigation system HoloSight (hereinafter referred to as "computer navigation system") in the treatment of posterior pelvic ring injuries. Methods: A retrospective analysis was made in the 41 patients with posterior pelvic ring injuries who had been treated surgically with transiliac-transsacral screws between June 2022 and June 2023. The patients were divided into navigation group (18 cases, using computer navigation system to assist screw implantation) and freehand group (23 cases, using C-arm X-ray fluoroscopy to guide screw implantation) according to the different methods of transiliac-transsacral screws placement. There was no significant difference in gender, age, body mass index, causes of injuries, Tile classification of pelvic fracture, days from injury to operation, usage of unlocking closed reduction technique between the two groups ( P>0.05). The time of screw implantation, the fluoroscopy times, the guide wire adjustment times of each screw, and the incidence of complications were recorded and compared between the two groups. The position of the transiliac-transsacral screw was scanned by CT within 2 days after operation, and the position of the screw was classified according to Gras standard. Results: The operation was successfully completed in both groups. The time of screw implantation, the fluoroscopy times, and the guide wire adjustment times of each screw in the navigation group were significantly less than those in the freehand group ( P<0.05). There were 2 cases of incision infection in the freehand group, and the incision healed by first intention after active dressing change; there was no screw-related complication in the navigation group during operation and early period after operation; the difference in incidence of complications between the two groups (8.7% vs. 0) was not significant ( P=0.495). According to the Gras standard, the screw position of the navigation group was significantly better than that of the freehand group ( P<0.05). Conclusion: Compared with the traditional freehand method, the computer navigation system assisted transiliac-transsacral screws internal fixation in the treatment of posterior pelvic ring injuries has advantages of improving the accuracy of screw implantation and reducing radiation damage and the time of screw implantation.

Brassinosteroids (BRs) are a class of steroid phytohormones that control various aspects of plant growth and development. Several transcriptional factors (TFs) have been suggested to play roles in BR signaling. However, their possible relationship remains largely unknown. Here, we identified a rice mutant dwarf and low-tillering 2 (dlt2) with altered plant architecture, increased grain width, and reduced BR sensitivity. DLT2 encodes a GIBBERELLIN INSENSITIVE (GAI)-REPRESSOR OF GAI (RGA)-SCARECROW (GRAS) TF that is mainly localized in the nucleus and has weak transcriptional activity. Our further genetic and biochemical analyses indicate that DLT2 interacts with two BR-signaling-related TFs, DLT and BRASSINAZOLE-RESISTANT 1, and probably modulates their transcriptional activity. These findings imply that DLT2 is implicated in a potentially transcriptional complex that mediates BR signaling and rice development and suggests that DLT2 could be a potential target for improving rice architecture and grain morphology. This work also sheds light on the role of rice GRAS members in regulating numerous developmental processes.

Introduction: The diversity, nitrogen-fixing capacity and heavy metal tolerance of culturable rhizobia in symbiotic relationship with Pongamia pinnata surviving in vanadium (V) - titanium (Ti) magnetite (VTM) tailings is still unknown, and the rhizobia isolates from the extreme barren VTM tailings contaminated with a variety of metals would provide available rhizobia resources for bioremediation. Methods: P. pinnata plants were cultivated in pots containing the VTM tailings until root nodules formed, and then culturable rhizobia were isolated from root nodules. The diversity, nitrogen-fixing capacity and heavy metal tolerance of rhizobia were performed. Results: Among 57 rhizobia isolated from these nodules, only twenty strains showed different levels of tolerance to copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), manganese (Mn) and zinc (Zn), especially strains PP1 and PP76 showing high tolerance against these four heavy metals. Based on the phylogenetic analysis of 16S rRNA and four house-keeping genes (atpD, recA, rpoB, glnII), twelve isolates were identified as Bradyrhizobium pachyrhizi, four as Ochrobactrum anthropic, three as Rhizobium selenitireducens and one as Rhizobium pisi. Some rhizobia isolates showed a high nitrogen-fixing capacity and promoted P. pinnata growth by increasing nitrogen content by 10%-145% in aboveground plant part and 13%-79% in the root. R. pachyrhizi PP1 showed the strongest capacity of nitrogen fixation, plant growth promotion and resistance to heavy metals, which provided effective rhizobia strains for bioremediation of VTM tailings or other contaminated soils. This study demonstrated that there are at least three genera of culturable rhizobia in symbiosis with P. pinnata in VTM tailings. Discussion: Abundant culturable rhizobia with the capacity of nitrogen fixation, plant growth promotion and resistance to heavy metals survived in VTM tailings, indicating more valuable functional microbes could be isolated from extreme soil environments such as VTM tailings.

Ubiquitin-specific proteases (UBPs) process deubiquitination in eukaryotic organisms and are widely involved in plant development and responses to environmental stress. However, their role in cell death and plant immunity remains largely unknown. Here, we identified a rice lesion mimic mutant (LMM) and cloned its causative gene, LMM22. Both dysfunction and overexpression of LMM22 gave rise to the hypersensitive response-like cell death, reactive oxygen species bursts, and activated defence responses. LMM22 encodes an active UBP that is localised to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and displays a constitutive expression pattern in rice. LMM22 interacts with SPOTTED LEAF 35 (SPL35), a coupling of ubiquitin conjugation to ER degradation domain-containing protein that is known to participate in ubiquitination and the regulation of cell death and disease response in rice. Additional analyses suggest that LMM22 can positively regulate and stabilise the abundance of SPL35 protein likely through its deubiquitination activity. These data therefore improve our understanding of the function of UBP in rice innate immune responses by demonstrating that LMM22 functions as a critical regulator of SPL35 in cell death and disease resistance.

Ambient air pollution exposure may increase the risk of obesity, but the population susceptibility associated with urbanicity has been insufficiently investigated. Based on a nationwide representative cross-sectional survey on 44,544 adults, high-resolution night light satellite remote sensing products, and multi-source ambient air pollution inversion data, the present study evaluated the associations of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) concentrations with the prevalence of obesity and abdominal obesity. We further calculated the associations in regions with different urbanicity levels characterized by both administrative classification of urban/rural regions and night light index (NLI). We found that 10 µg/m3 increments in PM2.5 at 1-year moving average and in NO2 at 5-year moving average were associated with increased prevalence of obesity [odds ratios (OR) = 1.16 (1.14, 1.19); 1.12 (1.09, 1.15), respectively] and abdominal obesity [OR = 1.08 (1.07, 1.10); 1.07 (1.05, 1.09), respectively]. People in rural regions experienced stronger adverse effects than those in urban regions. For instance, a 10 µg/m3 increment in PM2.5 was associated with stronger odds of obesity in rural regions than in urban regions [OR = 1.27 (1.23, 1.31) vs 1.10 (1.05, 1.14), P for interaction <0.001]. In addition, lower NLI values were associated with constantly amplified associations of PM2.5 and NO2 with obesity and abdominal obesity (all P for interaction <0.001). In summary, people in less urbanized regions are more susceptible to the adverse effects of ambient air pollution on obesity, suggesting the significance of collaborative planning of urbanization development and air pollution control, especially in less urbanized regions.

Safe and Just Space (SJS) is a framework for determining the range where the use of natural resources within the Earth's carrying capacity can maintain human well-being. However, there has been no systematic monitoring and evaluation of their sustainability across time and space. Here we developed and applied a model and a sustainable development human safe operation space (SDHSOS) index to assess the sustainability capacity and development path of 149 countries from 2000 to 2018. The results demonstrate that (1) The overall sustainable development capacity of all countries is at the middle or lower level and that it has increased over time. (2) The sustainability of natural and socio-economic dimensions and their degree of change show obvious geographic differences and income differences. (3) The national development path divided by income is characterized by a decline in natural environment dimensions and an increase in socio-economic dimensions, which mainly reflects a traditional development path model that promotes social welfare at the expense of the natural environment. This study suggests that nations can accurately identify development characteristics, expand their comparative advantages is the key to improving sustainable development capabilities.

More than half of the world's food is provided by cereals, as humans obtain >60% of daily calories from grains. Producing more carbohydrates is always the final target of crop cultivation. The carbohydrate partitioning pathway directly affects grain yield, but the molecular mechanisms and biological functions are poorly understood, including rice (Oryza sativa L.), one of the most important food sources. Here, we reported a prolonged grain filling duration mutant 1 (gfd1), exhibiting a long grain-filling duration, less grain number per panicle and bigger grain size without changing grain weight. Map-based cloning and molecular biological analyses revealed that GFD1 encoded a MATE transporter and expressed high in vascular tissues of the stem, spikelet hulls and rachilla, but low in the leaf, controlling carbohydrate partitioning in the stem and grain but not in the leaf. GFD1 protein was partially localized on the plasma membrane and in the Golgi apparatus, and was finally verified to interact with two sugar transporters, OsSWEET4 and OsSUT2. Genetic analyses showed that GFD1 might control grain-filling duration through OsSWEET4, adjust grain size with OsSUT2 and synergistically modulate grain number per panicle with both OsSUT2 and OsSWEET4. Together, our work proved that the three transporters, which are all initially classified in the major facilitator superfamily family, could control starch storage in both the primary sink (grain) and temporary sink (stem), and affect carbohydrate partitioning in the whole plant through physical interaction, giving a new vision of sugar transporter interactome and providing a tool for rice yield improvement.

Ecosystem services (ESs) have been widely used for ecological protection and land spatial planning. Natural and anthropogenic drivers exhibit a strong dynamic coupling relationship with ESs. However, current ESs-related research focused on mapping the ESs spatially or investing the trade-offs and synergies relationship between ES, ignoring the nonlinear response of ESs to natural and anthropogenic drivers. Here we aimed to investigate the nonlinear effect of 14 potential drivers (8 natural and 6 anthropogenic) on the total value of six typical ESs (ESV). Taking Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration (BTH) in China as an example, we established 14 constrain lines and identified critical thresholds through the restricted cubic splines (RCS) regression. We found strong non-linear impacts of natural and anthropogenic drivers on ESV and critical thresholds existed among all the 14 constrain lines. The RCS plots showed that the overall ESV was kept at a high level before or after certain thresholds (e.g., altitude >687 m, slope >13.4°, NDVI >0.7, distance from water <31.2 km, etc.). We categorized these threshold combinations and found the potentially high ES delivery areas were mainly distributed in the Yanshan Mountian, accounting for approximately 5% of the total BTH region. These critical thresholds offer a new method to delineate conservation and restoration priority areas.

Pollen development includes a series of biological events that require precise gene regulation. Although several transcription factors (TFs) have been shown to play roles in maintaining pollen fertility, the major regulatory networks underlying tapetum development and pollen wall formation are largely unknown. Herein, we report that ABERRANT MICROSPORE DEVELOPMENT1 (AMD1), a protein annotated previously as unknown protein, is required for tapetum development and pollen exine patterning in rice (Oryza sativa L.). AMD1 encodes a grass-specific protein exhibiting transactivation activity in the nucleus and is spatiotemporally expressed in the tapetum and microspores during pollen development. Further biochemical assays indicate that AMD1 directly activates the transcription of DEFECTIVE POLLEN WALL (DPW) and POLYKETIDE SYNTHASE2 (OsPKS2), which are both implicated in sporopollenin biosynthesis during exine formation. Additionally, AMD1 directly interacts with TAPETUM DEGENERATION RETARDATION (TDR), a key TF involved in the regulation of tapetum degradation and exine formation. Taken together, we demonstrate that AMD1 is an important regulatory component involved in the TDR-mediated regulatory pathway to regulate sporopollenin biosynthesis, tapetum degradation, and exine formation for pollen development. Our work provides insights into the regulatory network of rice sexual reproduction and a useful target for genetic engineering of new male-sterile lines for hybrid rice breeding.

The health hazards of ambient ozone (O3) pollution are receiving increasing attention worldwide. However, the evidence on the association between O3 and risks of chronic kidney disease (CKD) remains insufficient and inconsistent, particularly in developing countries where there is an absence of macroscopic investigations at a large population scale. Based on data from a representative nationwide cross-sectional CKD survey in 13 Chinese provinces and a high resolution O3 air pollution inversion dataset, generalized linear models were used to evaluate the associations of O3 concentration with prevalence of CKD. The results of this study suggested that long-term O3 exposure was positively associated with the risk of CKD. A 10 µg/m3 increment in O3 concentration was associated with an increased odds of CKD prevalence [OR = 1.11 (95% CI: 1.03, 1.21)] among all the 47,086 participants. Stronger associations were found in urban regions, younger adults <65 years, and people with higher socio-economic status (income and education level). A 10 µg/m3 increment in O3 concentration was associated with a higher increased odds of CKD prevalence in urban regions [OR = 1.31 (95% CI: 1.16, 1.47)] compared to rural regions [OR = 0.95 (95% CI: 0.84, 1.08), P for subgroup difference<0.001]. A stronger association of O3 concentration with CKD prevalence was found among younger people aged <65 years [OR = 1.21 (95% CI: 1.10, 1.33)] compared to those aged ≥65 years [OR = 0.92 (95% CI: 0.79, 1.07), P for subgroup difference = 0.003]. Our study demonstrated that long-term O3 exposure may increase risk of CKD in the general Chinese population, and the findings stressed the importance of persistent efforts in air pollution prevention and control.

The pollen wall is important for protecting the male gametophyte and for fertilization. The lipid components of the pollen wall are mainly synthesized and transported from the sporophytic tapetum. Although several factors related to lipid biosynthesis have been characterized, the molecular mechanisms underlying lipid biosynthesis during pollen development in rice (Oryza sativa L.) remain elusive. Here, we showed that mutation in the SWOLLEN TAPETUM AND STERILITY 1 (STS1) gene causes delayed tapetum degradation and aborted pollen wall formation in rice. STS1 encodes an endoplasmic reticulum (ER)-localized protein that contains domain of unknown function (DUF) 726 and exhibits lipase activity. Lipidomic and transcriptomic analyses showed that STS1 is involved in anther lipid homeostasis. Moreover, STS1 interacts with Polyketide Synthase 2 (OsPKS2) and Acyl-CoA Synthetase 12 (OsACOS12), two enzymes crucial in lipidic sporopollenin biosynthesis in pollen wall formation, suggesting a potentially lipidic metabolon for sporopollenin biosynthesis in rice. Collectively, our results indicate that STS1 is an important factor for lipid biosynthesis in reproduction, providing a target for the artificial control of male fertility in hybrid rice breeding and insight into the function of DUF726-containing protein in plants.

The contribution of rhizobia in the mitigation of non-enzymatic antioxidants against nitrogen deficiency and heavy metal toxicity for legume plant is not clear. Therefore, it is hypothesized that the inoculation of rhizobia could mitigate nitrogen deficiency and nickel (Ni) stresses in P. pinnata tissues by enhancing the formation of certain non-enzymatic antioxidants. The effect of symbiotic nitrogen-fixing rhizobia on the mitigation of nitrogen-deficiency and Ni stresses in P. pinnata was evaluated by inoculating two different rhizobia, i.e., Rhizobium pisi PZHK2 and Ochrobacterium pseudogrignonense PZHK4, around the rhizosphere of P. pinnata grown in soil containing 40 mg kg-1 Ni2+ and without nitrogen addition. The inoculation with both rhizobial strains promoted the growth of P. pinnata under nickel stress or nitrogen-deficiency condition, increased nitrogen content in all plant tissues and nickel content in shoots and leaves, but reduced nickel accumulation in roots. The four non-enzymatic antioxidants including glutathione (GSH), proanthocyanidin (OPC), ascorbic acid (ASA) and flavonoids (FLA) distributed in roots, shoots and leaves were followed in descending order: GSH > OPC > ASA > FLA. The four non-enzymatic antioxidants showed different levels of change under the nitrogen-deficiency and nickel stresses and in the non-stress control. The inoculation of PZHK2 and PZHK4 significantly (p < 0.05) increased the four non-enzymatic antioxidants in P. pinnata tissues, especially in roots. Some non-enzymatic antioxidants showed correlations with nickel or nitrogen in P. pinnata tissues, and the four non-enzymatic antioxidants also had correlations among each other. Therefore, this research revealed an excellent role of rhizobia in promoting non-enzymatic antioxidants to mitigate nitrogen-deficiency or nickel stress for P. pinnata.

The circadian clock and histone modifications could form a feedback loop in Arabidopsis; whether a similar regulatory mechanism exists in rice is still unknown. Previously, we reported that SDG724 and OsLHY are two rice heading date regulators in rice. SDG724 encodes a histone H3K36 methyltransferase, and OsLHY is a vital circadian rhythm transcription factor. Both could be involved in transcription regulatory mechanisms and could affect gene expression in various pathways. To explore the crosstalk between the circadian clock and histone methylation in rice, we studied the relationship between OsLHY and SDG724 via the transcriptome analysis of their single and double mutants, oslhy, sdg724, and oslhysdg724. Screening of overlapped DEGs and KEGG pathways between OsLHY and SDG724 revealed that they could control many overlapped pathways indirectly. Furthermore, we identified three candidate targets (OsGI, OsCCT38, and OsPRR95) of OsLHY and one candidate target (OsCRY1a) of SDG724 in the clock pathway. Our results showed a regulatory relationship between OsLHY and SDG724, which paved the way for revealing the interaction between the circadian clock and histone H3K36 methylation.

Objective: To observe the effectiveness of disposable skin stretch closure in the treatment of wounds with skin and soft tissue defects that were difficult to close. Methods: The clinical data of 13 patients with skin and soft tissue defects that were difficult to close treated with disposable skin stretch closure and met the selection criteria between July 2021 and February 2022 were retrospectively reviewed. There were 9 males and 4 females, the age ranged from 15 to 71 years with a mean of 39.8 years. The causes of injury included falling injury in 5 patients, traffic accident injury in 5 patients, and falling from height injury in 3 patients. The causes of skin soft tissue defects included open fractures in 4 patients, wound infection in 4 patients, osteomyelitis in 3 patients, degloving injury in 1 patient, and necrosis of skin graft in 1 patient. The injury was located at calf in 8 patients, calcaneus in 3 patients, pelvis in 1 patient, and plantar in 1 patient. The skin and soft tissue defects ranged from 5.0 cm×2.0 cm to 10.5 cm×6.5 cm. Wound conditions (wound closure and wound healing) and the presence or absence of complications were recorded. Results: All 13 patients were followed up 32-225 days with a median of 164 days. The wound closure time ranged from 5 to 14 days, with a mean of 8.8 days. The wound closure speed ranged from 0.7 to 13.7 cm 2/day, with a mean of 3.6 cm 2/day. All wounds healed at grade A, and no complication such as skin edge injury, wound necrosis, infection, dehiscence, and edema occurred. No patient complained of pain or discomfort, and no obvious scarring was found during follow-up. The wound healing time ranged from 17 to 28 days, with a mean of 21.7 days. One of them was transferred to other department due to lung cancer condition changes after using disposable skin stretch closure, and the wound had directly healed without suturing at 17 days after operation. Conclusion: The effectiveness of disposable skin stretch closure in the treatment of wounds with skin and soft tissue defects that were difficult to close was exact, with short wound closure time, few complications, and easy operation.
